YouTube now lets you watch videos in up to 8K

After recently adding support for 5K resolution, YouTube will now let you watch videos uploaded in 8K resolution natively. That’s 7680 x 4320 pixels at 30fps.
Currently there’s just one video that supports this resolution, and that too is mostly shot using two RED Epic Dragon in 6K in portrait orientation and then stitched together in Adobe After Effects to form the final 8K video. Some of the scenes are shot at 6K in landscape and then upscaled and sharpened for the higher resolution.
Playing the 8K video will require a lot of horsepower on your computer. Even with a Core i5-3570 and NVIDIA GTX 560 Ti the video was fairly choppy and dropping frames for me in Chrome, although it does seem easier to run than the 4K 60fps videos that were announced previously.
Currently, there are only a handful of cameras that can natively shoot in 8K, such as the RED Weapon Dragon, and even that can only shoot 6K for now with 8K upgrade coming later this year. Of course, this is wholly pointless for most people who don’t even have a 4K display, not to mention there really aren’t any commercially available 8K monitors or TVs available to purchase today anyway. But if you manage to find one, you can load up the video below and see how it really looks.

Instagram web gets a redesign

Since the first time the website was introduced several years ago, Instagram has updated the design. The new design is extremely minimal, with a lot of white space and large, full-size images.
The new design gets rid of the grey textured background and the blue top bar, replacing it with a clean white everywhere. The top bar just has the Instagram logo, your account name and a logout button.
The images are now in full size, that is 640 x 640, with more space between them. You can click on an image to see the tagged people or double click to like it as before.
The profile page sees the biggest change, with a clean, spaced out profile description and larger grid of picture thumbnails. You can hover over the thumbnails to see the number of likes and comments on it.
The web design is really impressive. I just wished the company focused on other things, such as increasing the resolution of the images as 640×640 is just not enough these days. And maybe also updating that icon, which looks skeuomorphic and extremely dated now.

Sony XPERIA M4 Aqua only has 1.26GB of usable storage on 8GB variant

sony_m4_aqua_memory
If you were thinking of getting yourself a Sony XPERIA M4 Aqua, particularly the 8GB variant then it’s probably time to think again. Apparently the 8GB variant comes with just 1.26GB of free storage out of the box.
Around 5GB of space is taken up by Android 5.0 Lollipop itself and another 2GB is taken up by pre-installed apps. Of course you might be thinking, you could free up quite a lot of memory by uninstalling various unwanted apps. But the issue here is that you wont be able to uninstall many of them as they are set as default apps and at best you can just disable them. Then again it wouldn’t really help you free up memory either. Some apps like Facebook etc can be deleted and you can get around 1.7GB of free storage but even that is less in our opinion.
This was found to be true on an unlocked variant of a European M4 Aqua which should be carrying lesser bloatware than carrier locked smartphones. While users can still move apps to the SD card, it still does leave the apk and some data behind on the phone memory itself and with 1.26GB, we feel that users are bound to run out of memory pretty soon enough and it means that it would be mandatory to get a microSD card for your phone as well.

Alleged image of the anticipated Meizu m2 note in comparison with MX4 were leaked couple of weeks back. The device appeared very similar in size and design to the MX4, however the home button seen in the image had an oval shape instead of a rectangle with rounded corners. Just to remind you, the device was rumoured to feature a fingerprint scanner initially but then reports came out suggesting that Meizu executives have denied it, but actually it wasn’t the case because company didn’t comment anything.
On Friday, a blog reported some specifications of the Meizu m2 note from GFXBench listing, which was removed instantly. According to the report, the listing of  Meizu m2 note suggested that the device will feature a 4.6-inch IPS display with 1080p resolution, an octa-core MediaTek MT6753 chipset, Mali-T720 GPU, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage expandable via microSD card slot, a 12 megapixel camera with an LED flash (4K video recording capability), a 5-megapixel front camera, Android 5.1 Lollipop with Flyme UI and dual-SIM with 4G LTE connectivity.
