How to get Android 5.1 Lollipop on Moto X (2014)

The Android 5.1 Lollipop update over-the-air (OTA) files for the Moto X (2014) have been captured. This means you can flash the newly updated firmware as a zip file right now rather than wait for the official rollout to begin. Read on and we'll show you how to get Android 5.1 on the Moto X (2014).

Important information

The file listed below is the over-the-air (OTA) file from XDA Developers but it is the same one that Motorola sent out. It is not suitable for rooted devices (if you want to use it, unroot your phone and make sure you are on stock Lollipop).
Because you're flashing soak test firmware, which may not be identical to the final version, you may have to revert back to Android 5.0 to get the official OTA when it is sent out (assuming you're not already happy with the soak test firmware).
This tutorial is for the unlocked Moto X (2014) Pure Edition (model XT1095). European unlocked versions with model number XT1092 are not able to be flashed with this file, so don't try it. You've been warned.
