Apple has bought LinX, an Israel-based company that boasts an array of incredible camera technology. While the company has yet to issue an official statement, Wall street journal claims that the deal is worth around $20 million.
LinX is known for miniature cameras that the company claims are “leading the way to DSLR performance in slim handsets.” Its cameras include features like background focus blur, parallax images, 3D picture capture, and are said to be good enough to click great photos indoors without the need of a flash.
LinX claims that its cameras are focused at tablets and smartphones, which could mean that next-generation iPhones and iPads could come with the Israeli company’s technology. Furthermore, with its MacBook line slimmer than ever before, Apple could also end up using the technology in its future notebooks.
This acquisition adds further weight to earlier reports, which claimed that next-generation iPhones will boast superior camera technology. Apple commentator John Gruber in his podcast had claimed that Apple’s next-gen iPhone will represent the biggest jump in iphone camera quality yet.
It’s too early to say if Apple is planning on integrating LinX technology in the new iPhone set to launch this year, or wait till next year. Recently, the Cupertino-based company has pooled in a lot of resources in trying to improve its mobile cameras. It is little wonder then users these days prefer an iphone rather than DSLR's to take photos.
